Lake Victoria Free Trade Zone Introduction (LVFTZ)
On 18th January 2006 an historic Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Government of the Republic of Uganda with Kagera Eco-Cities Ltd to create Africa's largest tax-free economic zone municipality in Rakai District, called Sseesamirembe Eco-City (SMEC) - Lake Victoria Free Trade Zone. "LVFTZ" is the acronym for the project.
LVFTZ is located within a potential market of over 100 million people in the East African Countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Eastern Congo and Northern Tanzania. It will offer the most viable trans-shipment corridor for the land-locked countries in the region.
