An Aroma For Business - The Story Of 4D YANTAI Condom Factory
The CEO and a technical team of 4D Yantai Condom factory from China - manufacturers of new types of condoms that effectively block the transmission of HIV and other viruses to the human body - recently visited Uganda, with the aim of establishing the potential of the market, and basing on the results, set up a condom factory in the Country, based in Lake Victoria Free Trade Zone. At the end of the mission, the results could not have been better; the following facts were established;
- There was a very warm reception of the executives of the company, which showed that indeed the Government and people of Uganda are eager to welcome investors and do whatever is necessary to make their businesses succeed. The executives were accorded audience by the National Drug Authority, the regulatory body for drugs and drug-related devices in the Country, the Ministry of Health, the Joint Clinical Research Centre, the Uganda Aids Commission, the Uganda Virus Reseach Institute, the Parliament of Uganda (which even suggested that Government sets aside revenues to hasten the procurement of this type of condom to the masses). The meeting ended with a dinner and a demonstration of the condoms to the Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry, Hon. Major General Kahinda Otafiire.
- The 4D condom factory, once established, has the potential to enjoy a monopoly in more than 10 countries of East and Central Africa, as this would be the only condom factory in this region of more than 500 million people.
- The Lake Victoria Free Trade Zone has plenty of land available for the establishment of factories. The team was readily shown three locations in the Zone, each spanning more than 1 sq mile, from which they choose where to put their factory. It was established that after the other utilities like water and servers, internet and other ancillary services are put in place, the Lake Victoria Free Trade Zone (LVFTZ) will become the most cost effective place to do business in this part of the world.
- The 4D delegation offered the LVFTZ a platform to showcase how ready the Zone's most important resource – the human resource is - in as far as effectively coordinating the activities of the Free Zone are concerned. Having seamlessly handled this delegation, there was left no doubt that indeed the LVFTZ is ready for the thousands of firms that are going to domicile in there.
Thus the team from 4D was effectively satisfied, and it's now working on final touches to come back and do business in the Country and the zone.
